Marathon's long-awaited big gameplay reveal has just gone live, showcasing the game properly for the first time and confirming that it'll launch on September 23 of this year.

While Destiny 2 has continued to see some great expansions in recent memory, it's fair to say that the game's current state has languished over the past year or so. Player counts have been slowly dropping since The Final Shape, and it seems that Bungie is looking to move away from its staple live-service somewhat, even in the wake of its acquisition by PlayStation in 2022.

Seeing Bungie learn good lessons from Onslaught so quickly is a great sign for Destiny.

For some time now, everyone's been wondering when Bungie's next big project was going to be released. We've known that project is Marathon, a PvP-focused extraction shooter that's actually a reboot of a game from 1994, but we've still all been waiting to see it in action for the first time and get a handle on what it's all about.
