Animal Crossing Adds Swimming and Diving with the First of Two Summer Updates

Coming on July 3, a new update to Animal Crossing: New Horizons will allow players to dive into the waters surrounding their island vistas.

In there, they'll find new sea creatures to discover and donate to the museum, like sea stars and eels. There are also two new encounters to discover. One of them occurs when players find a scallop at sea. A new NPC Otter named Pascal asks to have it, and giving it to him grants you a new item to dig up back on land.

The trailer below suggests these treasures to find make up a new Mermaid cosmetic set for your home, and judging by the looks of the completed set, it looks like a Lisa Frank fever dream.

Repeatedly tossed overboard crewbird, Gulliver, also returns with new encounters too, this time wearing a pirate hat and talking of more excuses as to why his crew abandoned him. He seems no less believable despite his new swashbuckler vernacular.

The update will be free to all players beginning on July 3 and Nintendo has teased that this is just the first of two free summer updates. A second content pack will arrive in early August, though details of that update are not yet known. Now would be a good time to grab (or design) some stylish swimsuits at the island shops.
