When it arrived on the scene late last year, Infinity Nikki became something of a phenomenon. It achieved ten million downloads over its launch weekend, and doubled that during the days that followed, hitting 20 million within a week. This game, combined with Love and Deepspace, made its development team almost $1 billion in 2024.
Undoubtedly, the core driver behind the whopping revenue of Papergames is the fact that its titles contain such egregious microtransactions.
Infinity Nikki is getting proper multiplayer, with co-op activities coming in the Version 1.5 update.
With Infinity Nikki launching on Steam yesterday, on April 28, a whole new audience got their hands on the game. Unfortunately, this also meant a whole new audience was exposed to its microtransactions, and that's led to its reviews getting off to a rocky start.
Infinity Nikki currently has 47 percent positive 'Mixed Reviews' on Steam, and its detractors are criticizing it for a variety of reasons.
Arguably, the major disappointment for players is the cost of Infinity Nikki's microtransactions. One negative review claimed that "a five-star outfit costs about $440 of credit in the game," while another added that "banners cost hundreds of euros."
