Reports Say the Xbox Game Studios Showcase Event Is Three Weeks Away

Following a report from VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb that put the Xbox Game Studios showcase on the calendar for late July, a second report from VGC has now nailed down a date.

Grubb yesterday updated his "Summer Game Mess" note with a new bit of information; the Xbox show will take place during the week of July 20. This morning, Video Games Chronicle's Andy Robinson has corroborated this news and says sources have informed VGC that the internal target at Microsoft puts the show on July 23 specifically.

The show will also feature third-party games, said VGC, in addition to showcasing a number of new Xbox Game Studios projects. While the third-party offerings are not yet known, we can reasonably expect Halo: Infinite to be the centerpiece of the digital presentation. VGC has confirmed the gameplay debut will be shown and the game remains on track to launch alongside the Xbox Series X this fall.

Other projects include Psychonauts 2 from one of the brand's newest studios, Double Fine, as well as heavily rumored - though not yet confirmed - appearances by Playground's Fable project as well as the debut title from The Initiative, which some say is a Perfect Dark reboot.

While the date has not been shared publicly yet, we should expect confirmation pretty soon. After June's showing was moved internally before any announcement, it left the Xbox team without much of a subject in its Xbox 20|20 plans to highlight next-gen details every month. Reports from Grubb and others suggested previously that this was to be the Xbox Series S reveal event, but that the debut of the cheaper Xbox console coming this fall has been moved to August.
