Several gamers trying to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 have reported aggressive upselling by GameStop staff at their Astoria location. Media Personality, Elea Tsentzelis, also known as Guywiththehair_, posted on X about his experience, and even included a video of his interaction, where he ended up paying roughly $900.
"So this GameStop is forcing you to buy bundles, cases, screen protectors, etc. They’re claiming they can’t process the SKU just for the console, but we all know what’s going on here." Tzentzelis also stated that some of the other customers weren't willing to add extra accessories to their bill and ended up leaving empty-handed.
GameStop Launches Investigation
The video posted on X by Guywiththehair_, shows that even after adding the Mario Kart World bundle, a Pro Controller, Donkey Kong Bananza, and a MicroSD card to his Switch 2 pre-order, Tzentzelis was told he still needed to add two more items. (via GameSpot)
Other customers posted in the comments about similar experiences being pressured into adding warranties, accessories, and GameStop Pro Memberships in order to secure their Switch 2.
