One of the greatest video games of all time may be returning in the modern era, as rumors are claiming that the creator of Chrono Trigger confirmed that a remake is in the works.
Chrono Trigger is a JRPG on the SNES that is often ranked among the greatest video games of all time. Square Enix gave it an enhanced port on the Nintendo DS and a terrible port on Steam, but not much else has been done with the game over the years.
2025 marks Chrono Trigger’s 30th anniversary, and Square Enix may have something in the works. Users on the Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest Reddits are reporting that Yuji Horii accidentally confirmed the existence of a remake during an event in Naples, before realizing his error and closing his mouth.
Is A Chrono Trigger Remake In The Works?
Naturally, this is still considered a rumor and should be treated as such until a remake is officially announced. However, Square Enix's previous promise that new projects would be in the works for the 30th anniversary does point to a revival.
