This year’s annual Star Wars Day seemingly caused many players to boot up 2017’s Star Wars Battlefront 2 on Steam, leading to the highest player count for the game in nearly four years. Star Wars Battlefront 2 was around the same time as Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi, and served as a sequel to DICE’s 2015 Star Wars Battlefront reboot. While early reactions to Battlefront 2 were lukewarm due to controversies surrounding its lootboxes, later updates would add new content and draw players back in.
DICE and EA would eventually discontinue support for Star Wars Battlefront 2 in 2020, with many of the gamers who decried its initial 2017 launch now praising it as one of the better Star Wars games of the modern era. Despite this improved reputation, Star Wars Battlefront 2 has more or less faded into the background over the past few years, though it still has plenty of fans who like to dive back in for a quick reenactment of classic battles from across all three major branches of the Star Wars timeline.
