"This Kyle Is A Much Darker Kyle": Dying Light The Beast Voice Actor Explains How The Protagonist Has Changed

As if 2025 wasn't stacked enough with major video game releases, even if Grand Theft Auto 6 was ultimately delayed, there will be another Dying Light game at some point this upcoming summer.

Titled Dying Light: The Beast, the game was originally announced during last year's Gamescom Opening Night Live, and it will put players in control of the game's original protagonist, Kyle Crane, in a smaller, but still meaty experience. Oh, and Roger Craig Smith will be back voicing Crane.

Now, in a new interview with Insider Gaming, Smith discussed the evolution of Kyle Crane, including his brush with the dark side.

We sat down with composer Olivier Derivière to speak about finding the new sound of Dying Light’s next entry and what has changed since Dying Light 2.

To start, Smith called his return to the role of Crane an "honour," though returning after a decade to the role does have him feeling old. Speaking of change, Crane as a character has been very clearly impacted by experimentation and is not how we as players remember him.

Those character changes pushed Smith to up the ante when it comes to portraying Crane while also tying things together.
