The first Super Mario Bros. movie ended with a post-credit scene focused on a character absent from the story, confirming that they would appear in any sequel. The scene focused on a Yoshi egg waiting to hatch, confirming that the little green dinosaur was being saved for a future film.
According to Eurogamer, NBC Universal issued a press release confirming the title for the next movie in the franchise is Super Mario World. This was quickly removed in an updated statement. This seemingly confirms that the next movie in the series will follow the story of the first SNES entry, skipping over one of the most underrated entries in the franchise.
