Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 came out of nowhere, and has quickly become one of the contenders for Game of the Year. Not only did it sell a million copies in one day, but it also claimed the spot of highest-rated game in 2025 so far. Not content with that, the game casually took the mantle of highest-rated user-scored game on Metacritic ever.
Clair Obscur is a French game made by a French team, and that dynamic is too rare.
A lot of this is down to the game's artistic choices and setting, while the unique approach to turn-based combat undoubtedly helped. Aside from those, it seems that players absolutely love the design of the enemies and the continent. However, one friendly guy has particularly stood out.
