Nearly eight years to the day of its release, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is seeing a renaissance like never before. The 2017 Star Wars-centric shooter originally saw a 250 percent boost in players around May 4, AKA, Star Wars Day.

Flash forward to May 15, and the game is once again resetting its peak concurrents on Steam. What's more, it's hard to pinpoint why exactly the game is having a moment all these years later.
To start, the game, which originally had a 24-hour peak of 5,559 players around May 4, has seen another increase in player count. This time, its 24-hour peak is 6,463, an increase of nearly 1,000 players from its initial popularity spike.
Now, initially, that spike could be attributed to Star Wars Day. After all, there aren't that many multiplayer-only Star Wars games that also feature as many characters from Star Wars lore as Battlefront 2 does.
