Returnal Developer Housemarque Not Interested In Developing Live-Service Games

While more and more developers are opting to dip their toes in the live-service well, it's not something developer Housemarque is looking into.

Housemarque, the developer of Returnal, is no stranger to multiplayer games producing such hits Dead Nation, NEX Machina, Resogun and more. However, that doesn't mean the studio will lean into their learnings there to develop live-service titles.

Housemarque Not Keen On Live-Service Games As Long As Premium Games Continue To Do Well

Speaking to Eurogamer, studio chief Ilari Kuittinen and creative director Gregory Louden explained how the studio has no intention of going the live-service and/or free-to-play route, and shared that the studio's vision is to focus on premium game releases. Louden said that "as long as people are buying premium games," Housemarque will be a studio focused on that.

The developers also explain that they don't aim for gamers to spend every free moment playing games, which is refreshing to hear.
