A few days after his post about "real fans" finding a way to pay $80 for Borderlands 4 went viral, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has sort of walked back his initial comments in a semi-apology post.
In a post shared on social media, Pitchford said it wasn't "his intent" to take fans for granted, and he was "humbled" by the response, though the words "I," "am" and "sorry" are nowhere to be found. Either way, it seems like the damage has been done, as Borderlands fans took a stand against Pitchford online, with many saying they won't be buying the game on day one.

Over on the r/Borderlands sub, fans voiced their displeasure with Pitchford in droves. Many said they'd be skipping out on Borderlands 4 entirely, while others said they'd wait for a major price cut before considering it.
"You can keep the game Randy," one gamer wrote. "I'll go play some other free-to-play or indie game."
