Polish game studio Punk Notion is preparing to make a splash at PAX Online with its narrative-adventure game The Last Show of Mr. Chardish. It's one Edith Finch fans will want to watch for.
Inspired by Giant Sparrow's beloved meditation on death and family "curses," Mr. Chardish will similarly use different scenes to use ever-shifting mechanics, much like Edith Finch famously did when it launched four years ago.
Though it's not seemingly focused on death the way Edith Finch is, the premise of the game may certainly leave room for that later. As described by the team, it's a game of revisiting memories shared by two former friends and theater performers who have since grown apart.
Players will take on the role of Ella, who revisits their old theater house and lives out five acts of their life before, each one introducing new mechanics, art, and characters to the game. Here's the synopsis straight from the team:
When they were young, Ella and Robert were full of dreams and ambitions. After the promising beginning of their careers, they eventually split out and cut ties. Decades later, the Actress returns to the forbidden theatre, to once more become the performer, the audience, and the muse. Attend the last show of Mr. Chardish, a famous Director reflecting on his defining moments, and her role in his life.
Punk Notion has released a free demo of the first act on Steam, which players can find here if they're interested. The full game is planned for release later in 2020 on PC and Xbox One. The game will also appear next week at PAX Online. It sounds like it may be a sad one, so sign me up.
