PlayStation Is Celebrating PS VR All Week with Deals and Reveals

on | OpenCritic

While we await more concrete PS5 news, Sony is taking this week to celebrate the PS VR platform with new game reveals and sales on past favorites. Calling it the "PS VR Spotlight," the digital celebration will put headset-first and friendly games in center stage all week long.

On the PlayStation Blog, the team made sure to manage expectations before divulging anything beyond the week-long event's name and date. "[T]his is all about the games. So to manage expectations, there’ll be no PS5-related news."

The first of the reveals came today, and it was a big one right off the bat. Minecraft is getting PS VR support later in September. Read it below from a very excited Mojang Studios.

Us Mojang folks have been bursting to say something about this for ages! PS VR support has actually been a planned PS4 feature since we got the thumbs-up from Sony to bring cross platform play and the Bedrock version to PlayStation 4. There was never any question of would we, just when.

The team added that the VR support will arrive for free for all Minecraft PS4 users, though of course you'll need the headset to play. Other than that, Minecraft in VR is "the same Minecraft game that you can play every day, every week, every month, every year…on PlayStation 4, "said the team. "Nothing removed. 100% wholesome & pure full-fat Minecraft."

More reveals are expected throughout the week, though one wonders if they can top this news. As for a VR sale, the PS4 digital store will be running a sale focused on virtual reality gaming beginning tomorrow, September 9, including such games as:

  • Arizona Sunshine
  • Astro Bot Rescue Mission
  • Blood & Truth
  • Borderlands 2 VR
  • Everybody’s Golf VR
  • Farpoint
  • Firewall Zero Hour
  • L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files
  • Superhot VR
  • Tetris Effect
  • Until Dawn: Rush of Blood

More games will be revealed for the sale when it goes live starting tomorrow, and the promotion will run through September 23.
