Those who miss the shrill songs of Patapon will be able to experience its spiritual successor soon, as the game’s creator announced that Ratatan is coming to Steam Early Access soon.
Ratatan follows a member of the animal species of the same name, who resides on the island of Rataport. Various members of the Ratatan are trying to find the mysterious place known as The Everafter, where it’s said that a goddess resides. The players take on the role of one of the Ratatan, as they go on adventures with little magical creatures called Cobuns.
Following a successful Kickstarter campaign that brought in over a million dollars, Ratatan made an appearance at the Day of Devs showcase, where new gameplay footage was revealed, and the Steam Early Access date was given.

Ratatan Comes To Steam Early Access In July
Patapon & Ratatan creator Hiroyuki Kotani led the presentation, which concluded with the announcement that Ratatan is entering Early Access on July 25, 2025.
Compared to Patapon’s static movement, Ratatan gives the player full control over its protagonist. The idea is that their Cobun minions can be guided, almost like Pikmin, and used to perform special moves in battle.
