The best part about these E3/non-E3/whatever you want to call them events is the infamous "one last thing" reveal at the end of the showcase. It's where Elden Ring made its long-awaited debut after years of silence. This year, as host Geoff Keighley couldn't contain his excitement, he debuted the trailer for Resident Evil Requiem, set to release February 27th, 2026.
The announcement comes about a half-hour after Capcom asked fans to "bear with us a little longer" for news on Resident Evil 9. "Just a blink of an eye more, and it'll be ready." I guess they weren't kidding.
This is a bold shift for the franchise in tone and gameplay. It's not just survival horror; Keighley says that you can expect cinematic action as well. This isn't the first time in recent memory that we've seen Capcom change the formula for Resident Evil. Resident Evil 7 returned the franchise to its survival horror roots, albeit changing things by shifting the game's camera to first-person. That stayed true with Resident Evil Village, though that had more of an action feel reminiscent of Resident Evil 4.
