A 20-Year-Old Resident Evil Game Is Blowing Up In Popularity Thanks To The Requiem Trailer

Capcom revealed at Summer Game Fest last week that it's pulling from an incredibly obscure place for its new protagonist: the multiplayer PS2 spin-off Outbreak. Running parallel to RE2 and RE3, it follows eight ordinary folk as they fight through Raccoon City, not only to escape the undead, but also the experimental thermobaric missile that the US is about to fire.

It was a well-received game that sold just over one million copies, but trapped on decades-old hardware, it's not one that many fans will have played. Yet in the new trailer, we were introduced to Grace Ashcroft, daughter to Outbreak survivor Alyssa Ashcroft. Understandably, the community is eager to find out more about the pair, with the fan-run servers hitting an all-time peak of 5,635 players (via the First Aid Spray Podcast).

Outbreak was the first co-op game in the series.
