Solasta 2 is the sequel to Solasta: Crown of the Magister, a well-regarded CRPG that captures the spirit of Dungeons & Dragons without any of that pesky licensing and copyrighted material. The original game utilised Dungeons & Dragons' fifth edition rules from 2014, as did the demo for Solasta 2.
However, developer Tactical Adventures has announced that the full game will be released using the modern, updated fifth edition rules (5e), released in 2024. The rule update brings several changes, like updates to various spells and reworked class mechanics. There are also additional subclasses, backgrounds and races.
Wizards of the Coast didn't release the System Reference Document (SRD) for the updated version of 5e until April 22 of this year, meaning Tactical Adventures couldn't switch Solasta 2 to the new ruleset until that point.
The System Reference Document contains parameters for publishing content using the core of Dungeons & Dragons' rules. Solasta: Crown of the Magister was using the 2014 version of the SRD, and will now be switching to the 2024 version.
Tactical Adventures will not offer the option to switch between the two rule sets, as "it would almost be equivalent to releasing two games at once."
