Gamers will have to pay if they want the remastered version of Marvel's Spider-Man.
In a statement to Kotaku, it was revealed that gamers will not be able to purchase the remastered version of Spider-Man on its own. They also cannot upgrade to the upcoming version of the game for free. In order to get the remaster, gamers will have to purchase the $70 Ultimate Edition of Miles Morales. Players can purchase Miles Morales for the PlayStation 4 and get a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version. However, this will only work for the upcoming title. Players will have to pay $20 for an upgrade that will grant them the remastered version of Spider-Man.
It was mentioned that the PlayStation 4 version of Spider-Man will be compatible with the PlayStation 5, though it will not be the upgraded version of the game. You can read the full statement below:
"Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered is an enhanced version of Marvel's Spider-Man, and is included as a part of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition for the PlayStation 5," Sony told Kotaku. "In addition, players who purchase Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 4 can upgrade at no additional cost to the PS5 version of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and can take advantage of a paid-upgrade to download Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered.
"There are no plans currently to offer Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered as a standalone. Players with a copy of Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4 can purchase Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition to experience Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered on PS5. Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4 also will be backwards compatible on PS5."
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales builds upon the universe of the original with a brand-new story. Players will take control of Miles Morales as he masters his new powers to become his own Spider-Man. Players will be able to utilize new powers that set him apart from Peter Parker, and traverse a new area in Miles' neighborhood.
Marvel's Spider-Man is available now for the PlayStation 4. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will release for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 12th.
