With Destiny 2 seemingly going nowhere, Bungie probably tied all its hopes to Marathon. The stylised extraction shooter was supposed to take the studio into the next generation, but it hit a major hurdle along the way. Bungie was accused of stealing an independent artist's work and even featured it in several trailers and artwork.

Marathon takes the friction out of the extraction shooter genre, but the friction is what gives the genre its depth.

Not just that, it seems like a lot of the game's design philosophy was taken from the artist. While the studio blamed a former employee, a major rework was warranted and all marketing for Marathon had been put on hold. This gave rise to rumours that the game might be delayed or even cancelled. However, it seems PlayStation has confirmed that the game is still on track to launch this year.

As spotted by Redditor Careless_Main3, in a recent business segment presentation for Sony Entertainment Interactive, one of the slides (slide 27) mentions that Marathon is still set for a 2025 launch.
