Despite having issued an apology, Devolver Digital isn't quick to absolve Randy Pitchford just yet as the publisher continues trolling the Gearbox CEO for his inflammatory $80 Borderlands 4 comment. Set to release on September 12, Borderlands 4 is looking to shake up the series with a new planet named Kairos and a whole set of new playable vault hunters. Despite the controversy, early previews of Borderlands 4 seem to be incredibly positive so far.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford found himself in hot water back in May for responding to a fan who was worried about Borderlands 4's potential $80 price tag, saying "If you're a real fan, you'll find a way to make it happen." This flippant response to one of gamers' biggest fears during a time of rising game costs caused an uproar online, one that even prompted prominent indie publisher Devolver Digital to take part in. Devolver jabbed on Twitter, saying gamers will be able to buy four copies of its new sci-fi co-op FPS Mycopunk for the price of an $80 Borderlands 4. Pitchford has since apologized, with Gearbox and 2K subsequently confirming Borderlands 4's $70 price, allowing gamers to breathe a sigh of relief....
