Throughout the first full week of July, the Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) 2025 marathon event raised over $2.4 million for Doctors Without Borders, which is a similar amount raised during January's Awesome Games Done Quick event. The 2025 Summer Games Done Quick marathon was highlighted by speedruns of classic games like Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Super Metroid, along with modern titles like Deltarune.
Usually held in late June to early July, Summer Games Done Quick is one of two mainline events hosted annually for charity by GDQ. Its headline marathon, Awesome Games Done Quick, takes place in early January. Between the charity marathons, GDQ also holds smaller events like Flame Fatales and Black In A Flash to give various speedrunners a chance to hone their craft. Additionally, Games Done Quick has hosted impromptu events as a response to natural disasters, such as Hurricane Helene in 2024. Games Done Quick broadcasts its charity events live on Twitch, with YouTube highlights of full game runs uploaded shortly after.
Kick reaches a new milestone in its ascent, strengthening its position in the live-streaming space as Twitch faces a steady viewership decline.
