Fortnite will receive substantial upgrades when it releases on next-gen consoles.
On the Fortnite website, it was revealed that Fortnite will be available on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on the days that they launch. All consoles will allow players to play split screen at 60 FPS. The Series X and PlayStation 5 will be able to play the game at 4K while running at 60 FPS. The Series S will be able to play the game at 1080p while running at 60 FPS. Loading performance has been upgraded on all the next-gen systems, improving texture loading and the amount of time it takes to get into a match from start-up. The Series X and PlayStation 5 will also support better dynamic visuals and physics, which includes trees responding to explosions, enhanced fluid simulations for smoke and liquids, and new Storm and cloud effects.
The PlayStation 5 version of Fortnite will have features that the Series X/S versions will not. The PlayStation 5 version of the agme will feature DualSense controller immersion, with the haptic feedback making it feel like the player is holding the weapon that they are firing. Fortnite will also feature haptic trigger feedback for ranged weapons. PlayStation 5 owners will also be able to go straight into the Battle Royale Lobby straight from the Home Screen through the PlayStation 5's Activities. Players will be able to go into the lobbies with Solos, Duos, or Squads selected, and queue up once in the Lobby.
It has also been revealed that players will be able to transfer their progress and cosmetics over to the next-gen systems if they are playing on current-gen machines. Cross-play will remain available on the new systems.
As a bonus for all players, no matter what system they play Fortnite on, Epic Games is giving away the Throwback Axe Pickaxe. Those who log into the game between November 4th and January 15th 2021 will receive the classic default pickaxe from Fortnite Chapter 1.
Fortnite is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, the Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. It will be a day 1 release for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
