Donkey Kong Bananza's first sales numbers are in, and they're early evidence that our favourite gorilla's Switch 2 debut is hardly monkeying around. Even so, they aren't aping the development team's previous project, coming in at under half of what Super Mario Odyssey achieved in the same market and relevant modifiers. But there are a lot of asterisks attached here, the kind that ultimately paints the picture of a strong showing for DK's first big adventure in far too long a time.

Veteran industry sales analyst Christopher Dring has revealed some fascinating statistics about the relative performance of Donkey Kong Bananza during its first few days on sale at UK storefronts. It's clocked in at three times what Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze's launch accomplished when it was ported to Nintendo Switch in 2020, which was - in turn - 53.7 percent higher than that same game's original release on Wii U.
