Sega is giving away a Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds version of the Blue Star from Sonic Riders. This nostalgic freebie became available just two months ahead of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds' multi-platform release.
First announced at the December 2024 edition of The Game Awards, CrossWorlds is the next big racing game from Sega, as well as a direct follow-up to the massively successful Team Sonic Racing, which sold 3.5 million copies between its mid-2019 release and June 2025. It is scheduled to hit the market on September 25.
As a celebration of previous Sonic racing games, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds brings back Sonic Riders' Extreme Gear, but the execution isn't perfect.
In the run-up to this release, Sega unveiled a new freebie in the form of the Blue Star, an Extreme Gear from the classic 2006 arcade racer Sonic Riders. Sonic's hoverboard—designed by Tails in the original game's lore—is being given away to anyone who signs up for a Sega Account. The only other requirement is linking at least one platform to the account. The key here is for fans to link their profiles to a platform on which they plan to play Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
