It seems that those who own Marvel's Spider-Man on the PlayStation 4 will be able to transfer their game saves to the PlayStation 5 version after all.
It was recently announced by Insomniac Games that game saves from the PlayStation 4 version of Marvel's Spider-Man will transfer over to the PlayStation 5 version of the game. The developer had stated previously that this data transfer would not be an option for players.
"We have heard you - in an upcoming update for [Marvel's Spider-Man], we will add the ability to export your save to Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered," the developer stated on Twitter. "This update will also add the three new suits from Remastered to the PS4 game. We expect to bring you this update around Thanksgiving."
Not being able to transfer PlayStation 4 save states to the PlayStation 5 version of Marvel's Spider-Man was just one of the gripes that players had against Insomniac. In September, it was revealed that players will not be able to purchase Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered as a stand alone title. It was also revealed that those who own the PlayStation 4 version of the game will not be able to upgrade to the Remastered version for free. In order to get the Remastered version of the title, players must purchase the $70 Ultimate Edition of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. However, those who buy Miles Morales on the PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade that game to the PlayStation 5 version for free.
While players will not be able to upgrade their PlayStation 4 versions of Marvel's Spider-Man to the PlayStation 5 version for free, they will be able to play the game on the new console. This can be done through the PlayStation 5's backwards compatibility. They just will not be able to play the Remastered version without paying.
Marvel's Spider-Man is available now for the PlayStation 4. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will launch for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 12th alongside the release of the new console.
