It's official: Borderlands 4 will be released on the Switch 2 on October 3, 2025. The next entry in the irreverent looter-shooter series is set for a September 12 release on other platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S - a decision initially believed to be related to GTA 6 - with the Switch 2 version to follow just three weeks later.
The Switch 2 release date for Borderlands 4 was confirmed in a video by Gearbox founder and president Randy Pitchford, posted on X (formerly Twitter). Pitchford expressed excitement about the increased portability provided by the Switch 2, and revealed a bit more about what fans can expect from the next entry on Nintendo's newest console.
Pitchford closes this makeshift announcement video with a fanfare, whooping and making air horn noises with his mouth. The reason is simple: Borderlands 4's newly-confirmed Switch 2 release date is a lot sooner than anyone expected.
Borderlands 4's gameplay innovations are a major step forward for the series, and it might be hard to go back to earlier games after playing this one.
