If you listen to the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast, you’ll know that Fire Emblem is my favorite Nintendo franchise. I may have gotten into it “late,” but once it started its “boom period” via Awakening, things got better and better with pretty much every entry. Nintendo took notice of how well it did on handhelds, and how well fans responded to the Smash Bros reps, and went all out for Fire Emblem Three Houses on the Nintendo Switch. As my review from the period noted, it was a magnificent game, and it became the best-selling title in the series and of its genre.
As a post from Stealth notes, today is the 6th anniversary of the game, which is crazy to think about. In the time since its release, we not only got a great DLC expansion and a Warriors-style spinoff, but we also got Fire Emblem Engage, which advanced the series in different ways while also celebrating the past.
