The World Ends With You is receiving a sequel next year.

Square Enix has announced that The World Ends With You will be receiving a sequel next summer. Entitled NEO: The World Ends With You, the game will be releasing on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch sometime next year. A trailer was released for the game, showing off the sequel's 3D are style and battles, which are an improvement from the original's 2-D perspective. We are also introduced to four of the game's characters in the trailer: Rindo, Fret, Nagi, and Minamimoto.

NEO: The World Ends With You takes place in the streets of Shibuya, where players will take part in the "Reaper's Game," a life-or-death battle for survival. Players will take control of Rindo as they try to to uncover the mysteries behind the Game that they are being forced to take part in. NEO: The World Ends With You features a re-creation of modern Shibuya with a comic-inspired art style. Players will explore the city, fight monsters alongside their allies, and take on missions as they try to change the fate that they have been handed.

It was also announced that the anime adaptation of the original The World Ends With You will release next April. Square Enix released a trailer for the anime, showing that it will keep the visual art style that the first game was known for. The anime had been announced this past June, and received a teaser back in July. The World Ends With You character designer Tetsuya Nomura will serve as a creative producer for the anime.

The World Ends With You originally released for the Nintendo DS back in 2008. An enhanced version of the game, The World Ends With You: Final Remix, is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
