Thieves Steal Thousands of Dollars Worth of Labubus

The owners of a resale shop in La Puente, California, are asking for help in identifying four young suspects who are accused of breaking into the store and stealing approximately $30,000 worth of Labubu dolls. The four suspects in the Labubu case were seen on security footage wearing masks and hooded sweaters to conceal their identities.

Originally released in 2015, Labubu figures are based on character designs from a figurine line called "The Monsters," and have been produced by China-based Pop Mart since 2019. Labubu was created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, who based The Monsters on elf-like beings from Nordic mythology and folklore, which in turn was sparked by his upbringing in the Netherlands and Belgium. The popularity of Labubu dolls took off in 2024 after Lisa from the K-pop group Blackpink was seen with a Labubu keychain on her bag, which quickly grabbed attention.
