Fortnite is preparing to welcome - okay maybe not "welcome" - The Devourer of Worlds. Marvel's Galactus is coming to the island in just a few weeks, and the consequences may be far-reaching.

Epic Games has been teasing such a showdown all season, and now we have an exact date of the event. The Nexus War begins on December 1 at 4 pm Eastern. That's next Tuesday, if you're interested. All season long, the Fortnite map, Battle Pass, and game modes have been overtaken by Marvel crossover materials, including unlockable skins for heroes like She-Hulk, Iron Man, and Wolverine. Midway through the season, the map, was updated to include Stark Industries as well as Tony Stark's vacation home in Upstate New York.

But now, all that is threatened by Galactus, who is expected to star in the next major Fortnite event, which tends to unfold like you-had-to-be-there live theater. Ever the marketers, Epic has said little about what to expect, but has nailed the teases thus far. "It was only a matter of time," the company said in a blog post. "Galactus is closing in on the Island and the fate of all Reality lies in the balance."

There's been speculation that the event will lead into some major changes for the next season, which is meant to coincide with The Game Awards on December 10. It's possible that we will learn more about this next update - whatever it may be - on the show floor of The Keighleys.

According to at least one leaker, @iFireMonkey on Twitter, an upcoming event in the game is both "the biggest event" they've done yet and it "will change the future of Fortnite."  The leaker alleges to have heard from a source who was present for a Zoom call where Geoff Keighley and others were prepping for the awards show, which annually doubles as a games industry hype machine, showcasing new and upcoming games as much or more than it doles out rewards.

Whatever they have planned, it's starting to feel like Epic's plans for Fortnite are about to take the world by storm in a way the game hasn't done as much this year, despite its still massive popularity.

Meanwhile, Epic has also revealed The Fortnite Crew, a new subscription pass for the game which includes 1,000 V-Bucks, exclusive cosmetics, and the Battle Pass all for a monthly fee. The Fortnite Crew is set to debut with the start of Season 5 on December 3. Pricing has not yet been revealed.
