Marvel Rivals Apparently Doesn't Use EOMM, Will Explain How Matchmaking Works Soon

Marvel Rivals has a lot of problems, such as too many duelists, unpopular changes to group stacks, leavers in ranked, and a lot more, but one of the most consistent complaints that has lingered over the past few months is matchmaking. It can sometimes feel like you're placed in nothing but one-sided matches, and many put that down to how the game supposedly uses engagement-optimized matchmaking (EOMM).

For the uninitiated, EOMM is a matchmaking system that is designed to keep a player from quitting the game for as long as possible, queueing up matches that you'll more statistically win or lose in depending on what the situation calls for. For example, it might serve up a loss if you've been on a big winning streak, and then keep serving up losses as you attempt to get your winning streak back. That's the thought process anyway.

Due to how scuffed matchmaking is in Marvel Rivals, a lot of fans have come to accept that NetEase uses EOMM despite there being zero confirmation from the developers themselves that this is the case.
