With the full release of Battlefield 6 right around the corner, EA and DICE are reportedly planning one last farewell update to Battlefield 2042. Having launched in 2021, Battlefield 2042 largely failed to keep its player base satisfied despite its near-futuristic setting. However, developer DICE put a huge amount of effort into post-launch seasons, updates, and improvements in the years following, slowly gaining back good will over time. However, this hasn't stopped publisher EA from wanting to move on from the entry entirely, as its successor, Battlefield 6, is about to release in just under two months.
Following the issues with Battlefield 2042, many FPS fans were understandably skeptical about Battlefield 6 until the first open beta period went live last weekend. The beta has been all the rage in recent days with its modern-day setting and explosive, destructive fun, and the game seems poised to give Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 some serious competition this fall. Additionally, Battlefield 6's planned battle royale mode seems like everything fans of the franchise have been asking for ever since Battlefield 5's Firestorm mode largely disappointed in 2019.
