Square Enix has just released the port of an acclaimed RPG as a surprise, breaking its console exclusivity, meaning that you can now play it on other platforms. The developer is well-known for a plethora of RPG series, including the decades-long Final Fantasy franchise. Apart from it, Square Enix’s RPG franchises include Octopath Traveler, Dragon Quest, and many others. Now, another game in its roster has reached new platforms.
In a surprise release on August 20, Square Enix announced that Triangle Strategy, originally released for Nintendo Switch in early 2022, is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, as well as the Microsoft Store. The announcement that the tactical RPG can be played on Sony and Microsoft consoles came through a trailer shared on the official Square Enix account on YouTube.
Even though it was playable on PC via Steam, Triangle Strategy remained a Nintendo console-exclusive for over three years. There hadn’t been discussions or hints about its release on other consoles before, so Square Enix’s announcement came as a total surprise, not only because the game became immediately available for other consoles, but there was no prior warning about its release.
