In a stunning move, Cyberpunk 2077 has been delisted on the PlayStation Store and Sony is issuing refunds to all players who request them.

The move comes just a week after the game launched in relative disarray on last-gen platforms like PS4 and Xbox One and a storm of controversy since then. CD Projekt Red has already apologized publicly for the game's currently faulty state, to some extent on all platforms, but most of all on last-gen consoles. After suggesting players reach out to sellers for refunds, Sony was inundated with refund requests for digital purchases, something it has no policy for, in fact.

Thus, the company had to make an exception, but it comes at quite the cost for the dev team in Poland. Cyberpunk 2077 is gone from the PlayStation digital store, and its return, while inevitable, has no known date right now. You can read the entire statement from PlayStation below.

SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store. SIE will also be removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice.

Once we have confirmed that you purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store, we will begin processing your refund. Please note that completion of the refund may vary based on your payment method and financial institution.

While the language used seems a bit confusing as to what happens if players don't want a refund, it was later clarified in an investor-directed statement by CD Projekt that players who don't request one can keep playing their digital copies of Cyberpunk 2077 and the game will even continue to receive updates.

The Management Board of CD PROJEKT S.A. with a registered office in Warsaw (hereinafter referred to as “the Company”) hereby publicly discloses the decision of Sony Interactive Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as “SIE”) to remove Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice. The decision was undertaken following our discussion with SIE regarding a full refund for all gamers who had purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store and want a refund at this time. All copies of the game previously purchased digitally on PlayStation Store remain available for use by their respective buyers. Gamers can still buy physical versions of the game in retail and mail order stores. All copies, whether digital or physical, will continue to receive support and updates from the Company.

As of writing, Xbox has not delisted the game, likely because it already has a digital refund policy players can use should they choose to. When Cyberpunk 2077 will return to PlayStation digitally is anyone's guess, but those truly inclined to play it on PlayStation can still buy physical copies in stores if they don't yet own it.
