It's Over Need For Speed Fans - Criterion Has Officially Been Renamed To "A Battlefield Studio"

It looks like the rumours of Need for Speed being "shelved" were true, as lead developer Criterion has officially been renamed to "Criterion - A Battlefield Studio".

Even though it hasn't been that long since the last Need for Speed game, Unbound, released, it's still felt like fans of the series haven't had much to be excited about over the past few years (don't even get me started on Burnout...). That lull only got worse when it was reported last month that Need for Speed has been "shelved" by EA.

That report came from the lead of Speedhunters, a car culture website that was even backed by EA, so it seemed believable at the time. Things started to look even worse when it was confirmed that Criterion, the creators of Burnout and lead team on Need for Speed, were confirmed to be involved in Battlefield 6's development. It seems that's now the team's future.

As pointed out by aleyyyy420 on the Need for Speed subreddit, it looks like Criterion isn't just going to be working on Battlefield 6, as it now seems to be going the way of Vicarious Visions and becoming a support studio. The official website for...
