WARNING: The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS for the main story of Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail up to Patch 7.3.Final Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki Yoshida stated that the story of Dawntrail's remaining major content updates, Patches 7.4 and 7.5, will continue to explore facets of Solution Nine and the Ninth Reflection. Yoshida also stated that, while Dawntrail had Final Fantasy 14 players explore Tural and Alexandria in tandem, the story of the former is wrapped up following the events of Patch 7.3.
Following the Rite of Succession story arc in the first half of Dawntrail, the expansion's latter half and subsequent updates honed in on the sudden appearance of the technologically-advanced nation of Alexandria, a kingdom from the Ninth Reflection and a reference to the Final Fantasy 9 kingdom of the same name. During Patch 7.3, the Warrior of Light and their allies foiled a plot by the Endless scientist Calyx, who called forth the Primal entity known as Necron, named and modeled after Final Fantasy 9's surprise final boss. Though Calyx escaped, it was revealed that he was in league with the Ascians, a recurring foe of the Warrior of Light.
