Epic Games Wins Google Lawsuit And Eyes $205M Payout

Epic Games, best known as the developer of Fortnite, has asked a US judge to award the company over $200 million, after a federal court ruled in favor of the company over Google. The lawsuit began in 2020 and alleged that Google was monopolizing how consumers access apps on Android devices and pay for transactions within apps. In December 2023, a San Francisco jury ruled in favor of Epic Games, and now, the exact damages Epic is seeking have been revealed.

In a report from Reuters, a court filing on Friday, August 22, revealed Epic's legal team's intentions to seek $205 million. The court filing argues that the high demand is reasonable, and the amount was warranted based on the complexity of the litigation and the results achieved. Google has denied any wrongdoing and has stated it would take the case to the US Supreme Court if needed.

In October 2024, a judge ordered Google to restore competition by allowing users to download rival app stores within the Google Play Store and make its data more readily available, effectively winning Epic Games the case after the previous jury verdict. Since then, Google has been appealing the decision to no avail....
