That's what happened to one poor gamer who was preparing to settle in and play Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, only to discover that the card in the sealed Switch game they bought was actually Balan Wonderworld.
TheRagingSaiyan shared their story on the NintendoSwitch subreddit. They bought what they thought was a copy of the Dragon Quest 3 remake from Best Buy, picking it up for less in a sale on Square Enix games. A few days later, they busted out the card and popped it into their Switch. As they were about to leave the room, leaving the game to install, they noticed the new tile on their homescreen was for Balan Wonderworld.
Even then, they didn't quite comprehend what was happening because, honestly, why would you? Their first instinct was that Square reused the card, and that after the game had installed and updated, all would be well and the Balan imagery would be replaced by the artwork for Dragon...
