A new job listing at Sony's Santa Monica Studio for a combat designer may lend credence to the notion that a new God of War title is already in development. The job listing from Sony stated that the combat designer position is a contract role, and that Santa Monica Studio is seeking candidates familiar with the combat designs used in modern God of War games, including God of War Ragnarok.
The job listing came amid a busy time for Sony and its properties. Although no God of War games are expected to launch in 2025, development continues on a rumored God of War spin-off that will reportedly tie back to Kratos' Greek origins and be a radical departure from the recent Norse setting. The last time the franchise was set in Greece was in 2013's God of War: Ascension, a prequel to the entire series that provided fans with some backstory to Kratos' feud with Ares. Despite its favorable response from fans, God of War: Ascension was never re-released outside its initial launch on the PS3.
