The developer of Tomb Raider and Marvel's Avengers, Crystal Dynamics, announced via LinkedIn on Wednesday that layoffs have occurred at the studio. Crystal Dynamics did not confirm the number of people affected by the decision. It has confirmed, however, that the next entry of the Tomb Raider series has been unaffected.
Unfortunate News for the California Studio
Crystal Dynamics in a Wednesday LinkedIn post explains that "evolving business conditions" are the cause behind the studio's third wave of layoffs in the past two years, according to VGC. "This decision was not made lightly," said the California development company. "It was necessary, however, to ensure the long-term health of our studio and core creative priorities in a continually shifting market."
Thankfully, Crystal Dynamics says it is "committed to offering the full extent of support and resources at [their] disposal during this transition." The company then references that the future of Tomb Raider "remains unaffected by this decision."
