While Capcom won't hit its recently customary January window for launching its major releases, Resident Evil 8 may not be far behind. A deep dive is planned for next week's online showcase event, the publisher has revealed.
The Resident Evil Showcase will take place online on January 21 at 10 pm GMT on Capcom's social channels. The event will be hosted by Brittney Brombacher, the host of What's Good Games, a gaming podcast. Capcom promises fans reveals such as a new trailer, the first-ever gameplay demo, as well as "lots more Resident Evil news." Judging by the title, that may very well mean the company will reveal projects outside of Resident Evil 8, sometimes called Resident Evil Village. It seems even Capcom can't decide which title it likes best.
Resident Evil 8 was revealed last spring during a PlayStation games showcase, but since then we've learned of it mostly by way of the rumor mill, which has suggested things the game's debut trailer seems to hint at. One rumor stated the game would, in some ways, be a considerable departure from previous Resident Evil lore, even though it stars Ethan from Resident Evil 7, allegedly as one of several playable characters. Rumors also said the game would feature unorthodox enemies for the long-running pandemic-centric action-horror series such as werewolves and witches. Early trailer footage seems to confirm this sequel really is about to get that weird.
As for what else we may learn at the showcase event, credible rumors point to Capcom working on a Resident Evil 4 remake, following in the footsteps of the success it's had with remaking Resident Evil 2 in 2019 and Resident Evil 3 just last year. Maybe the team is ready to tease that, though rumors say it's still a few years off and lately the series has featured short turnarounds between reveal and release. We could even see some more content for Resident Evil Resistance, the asymmetrical horror multiplayer game which comes included with Resident Evil 3.
