Hideo Kojima Says He Is Inspired By The Real World More Than Other Games

Considering Hideo Kojima's impact on the gaming industry, which has now spanned decades, you'd think he would be an avid gamer himself. However, at this stage of his life, at least, that very much isn't the case.

As spotted by GamesRadar+, Kojima recently took part in a fireside chat alongside director Nicolas Winding Refn, known for the film Drive. Rolling Stone shared what was discussed during this talk, and Kojima shared some insight into where he looks for inspiration - and it's not other games.

“I don’t play games so much," Kojima says. "I watch movies, read books, meet people and go to museums, and I’m not copying anything from a game. And there are lot of game creators just watching other games.

“We should think outside the box and be stimulated by things all around us, and that’s what creators are," he continues.
