World Of Warcraft Turtle WoW Servers Hit With Blizzard Lawsuit

An impressive number of World of Warcraft players use private servers, and Blizzard has just filed a lawsuit against a massive server provider. Officially, World of Warcraft offers several different ways to play the game, with options to experience the Classic version or embrace all the updates made in more recent years. Third-party servers can still fill in certain gaps, however, offering their own takes on the state of the game.

On Friday, August 29, Blizzard filed a lawsuit against Turtle WoW, a massive private server provider, which can be found on the CourtListener legal archive. The California-based suit features a number of complaints, most notably several claims of copyright infringement issues. In a statement shared with Windows Central, Blizzard claimed that the "pirate server illegally uses [Blizzard's] code, assets, and trademarks to market an unprotected experience."

Turtle WoW servers strike a balance that thousands of World of Warcraft players have come to enjoy, providing a "fan-made expansion story for World of Warcraft Vanilla." Servers have been available since 2018, but Turtle WoW has been surging in popularity, which might have made the issue a new priority for Blizzard.
