FFXIV has a long history of crossovers, and director Naoki Yoshida, AKA Yoshi-P has some big names he'd still like to collaborate with. While most FFXIV crossovers focus on other games, ranging from Monster Hunter to Dragon Quest, that's not a hard rule. One special event offered new gear based on the Japanese TV show GARO, and there's certainly room for the game to branch out in surprising directions again.
In an interview with TechRadar, Yoshi-P shared three anime he'd like to see in FFXIV — One Piece, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Gundam. Yoshi-P calls himself a "maniac about One Piece," and a "super fan of Evangelion," while noting that Gundam "goes without saying." He also mentions his long-standing desire to collaborate with Diablo, one of his favorite game franchises.
All three anime Yoshi-P mentioned have legendary standing within the industry. One Piece is known for the scope of its creative story, which has spanned well over 1,000 episodes to date. Neon Genesis Evangelion stands as a towering artistic achievement of the 1990s, infusing a mecha story with a healthy dose of philosophy, introspection, and striking visual symbolism.
