Kevin Hart will be joining the Borderlands film.
In a report from the Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that comedian Kevin hart has signed on to play Roland in the upcoming Borderlands film. The actor had been in talks to join the movie for months. While the actor is normally known for his comedic roles, this will be a more serious role for him to play.
"I'm thrilled to be working with Kevin," stated film director Eli Roth. "Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they've never seen before. He's going to be an amazing Roland."
"Kevin has been behind some of the world's biggest blockbusters, and our source material is inspired by one of the world's best-selling video games," stated Nathan Kahane, president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. "We love the way our filmmaking team has adapted this story, and we couldn't be in better creative hands."
Hart is not the only big actor to be attached to the Borderlands movie. Last year it was revealed that Cate Blanchett will also be starring in the film. Blanchett will star as Lilith, a Siren and one of the original Vault Hunters from the first game in the franchise. The final two Vault Hunters, Mordecai and Brick, have not been cast at this point.
It was announced that the Borderlands film was officially in the works early last year. The movie will be directed by Eli Roth, who is known for his projects such as Cabin Fever and Hostel. The film will be written by Craig Mazin, who is known for his work on Chernobyl, and is also working on The Last of Us for HBO. Avi and Ari Arad will be producing the film, with Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford serving as an executive producer.
The latest Borderlands title, Borderlands 3, is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
