It looks like the Borderlands film has found its Lilith.
According to Variety, Cate Blanchett has signed onto the Borderlands movie. She will portray Lilith, a Siren and one of the original Vault Hunters from the first game in the series. So far she is the only actor to be attached to the film, as the game's other three Vault Hunters, Brick, Mordecai, and Roland, have not been cast at this moment.
"I'm so lucky to have the amazing Cate Blanchett starring in 'Borderlands,'" Eli Roth, director of the film, told Variety. "We had the most incredible collaboration together on 'The House With a Clock in Its Walls,' and I believe there's nothing she can't do. From drama to comedy and now action, Cate makes every scene sing. Working with her is truly a director's dream come true, and I feel so fortunate that I get to do it again on an even bigger scale. Everyone brings their A-game to work with Cate, and I know together we're going to create another iconic character in her already storied career."
The Borderlands film was announced this past February. At the time it was revealed that Eli Roth would be directing the film, while Craig Mazin, who is known for his work on HBO's Chernobyl, will be penning the movie. Both Avi and Ari Arad will produce the film, with Gearbox's Randy Pitchford serving as an executive producer.
At the moment there is no word on when we can expect the Borderlands movie to release. It is also unknown if the movie will be a direct adaptation of the game or if it will be an entirely original plot, as well as which characters will appear in the film and who will play them.
The latest game in the Borderlands series, Borderlands 3, is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
