Baldur's Gate 3 is the continuation of a decades-long legacy that began with the release of the original Baldur's Gate in 1998. There are several callbacks to BioWare's original duology in Baldur's Gate 3, with the most notable being the returning characters Jaheira, Minsc, Sarevok Anchev and... Viconia DeVir.
A lot of people who have only played Baldur's Gate 3 may not realise that Viconia is a companion in both Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2, and a popular one at that. With this in mind, a lot of returning players were disappointed by Viconia's appearance in Baldur's Gate 3, where she was placed in a purely antagonistic role to the party and specifically, Shadowheart.
Viconia is undoubtedly an evil character when you first meet her in Baldur's Gate. After all, you encounter her fleeing the Flaming Fist after brutally murdering a family of farmers.
However, like her fellow drow Minthara, there's a real vulnerability about Viconia. She can be made to question her own ambition and moral alignment by the player, and those who romance her in Baldur's Gate 2 can eventually switch her from Neutral Evil to True Neutral.
