Rumors of a new God of War game have been cropping up for some time, but it now appears that the series has two new entries on the horizon. The beloved PlayStation console-exclusive series' latest installment is the fantastic God of War Ragnarök, which is approaching its third anniversary, having released in late 2022. A mainline follow-up is practically guaranteed, but a new report suggests a spin-off is coming as well.
When speculating about what games could be shown at the rumored State of Play later in September, Insider Gaming suggested that a new metroidvania God of War could be among the lineup, but the site also "has it on good authority a mainline title is also in the works." Series developer Santa Monica Studio and publisher PlayStation have yet to officially confirm a new God of War game, nor has another State of Play been announced.
Unless Santa Monica Studio has chosen to reinvent the series once again, it's likely that the next mainline God of War game will follow in Ragnarök's footsteps with third-person hack-and-slash gameplay.
